The tours have been a fantastic way of making many people aware of the charity’s work. Schools, churches, host families and friends are all genuinely moved by the sincerity, hard work and cheerfulness of these resourceful children who perform with so much enthusiasm. The tours have had many benefits in the lives of the children and the teachers. The children of the singing group are far more outgoing and confident in their daily lives in Kenya, and both pupils and teachers have benefited from the education and teaching methods in our schools in this country.
When the choir are on tour they
spend time being educated in our
local schools and joining in with
lessons. This is a fantastic experience
for all involved. Children and teachers
from both countries learn about each other’s culture.
There have been some firm friendships made in the past as I am sure there will be this year. Check out the wonderful comments on our website
We know for many meeting the choir children in their new trainers and colourful costumes that it is difficult to imagine how different their life at home is. All the children you meet from the choir know hunger, they all live in very poor conditions and all their families struggle to exist - no running water no inside sanitation, no air con, cookers or television! What is so wonderful about all of this is the
inner happiness that shines through.
We know from the feedback from the last two years and from the many of you who have visited the school in
Kenya, that this is a great lesson that
we could learn from the people and
children of Kenya. Please do what
you can to help.
The choir are very proud of their
achievements and respected within
their local community. Over the last two years the singing children of Africa have raised enough money to build, furnish and secure the future of the Joshua tree orphanage which is now home to nine children, and will accommodate a further eleven in the future. Over the previous visits to the UK, the choir have had the most wonderful experiences and sung their hearts out to captivated audiences. On the tour they spent time in schools, helped in music classes, went swimming, visited the seaside, visited the houses of parliament, appeared on national television and had a wonderful time living with host families.
